After Miscarriage
You might be reading this after searching for “Irregular period after miscarriage” and well, I’m not a medical expert. But I’m going to share my experience.
I had a miscarriage in October and my care was lacking. I’ve always really like the doctor’s office where I was being seen. There is a birth center in my area and I had decided to be seen by the midwives there. This birth center is part of the same organization where a lot of MD’s and other midwives are who deliver in the hospital. When I called in to the advice nurses when the spotting started, I wasn’t really under the care of the midwives anymore.
I was told to wait to try again until I’d had one period after my miscarriage. I’ve had friends tell me they were told not to wait and some that were told to wait three months.
I’m going to say that you should wait until you FEEL ready. That is not something a doctor can quantify for you.
So fast forward to November and I had my first period post miscarriage. The rumors are true, it’s awful. It was heavy, painful and LONG. But I felt like it was a milestone. First period after miscarriage – check! Now, my husband and I were going to try again. But, my period ended up being 5 days late and all I got was negative pregnancy tests.
Turns out, I didn’t ovulate that month. And that can be pretty normal after a miscarriage. How much does that suck? Losing your baby sucks and then your body is still just reeling afterwards. Even though I lost my baby in the first trimester, my body was still acting like I had given birth to a happy, healthy baby. It didn’t really know the difference.
I remember telling my husband that my body was broken.
It definitely felt that way but I know it’s not true. My body was just healing, and trying to figure out what was going on.
So I’m here to tell you that irregularities after miscarrying are normal. I’m sure they’re different for everyone but don’t feel like your body is broken.
